Student Housing - Northam

Student Housing

The accommodation facilities at the Northam campus consists of the Halls of Residence, the Settlement Cottages and the Postgraduate houses. Up to 147 students can be accommodated in student housing at Muresk. AAA Tourism have given Muresk facilities a rating of 3.5 stars in the self catering category.

There are three Halls of Residence: Dempster Hall, Hughes Hall and Southern Hall. Each hall was named after a Principal of Muresk College (as Muresk was known before it became a University). The Halls, with a total of 118 single rooms (including four double rooms), have been newly refurbished. Each Hall is divided into four units; each unit has bathroom and toilet facilities and a common room with lounge facilities, television, video and fridge. Some twin-share rooms are available. Rooms are furnished with a bed, desk, wardrobe, bookcase, ceiling fan and heaters. Since each student's room has connection facilities to the computer network with access to email and the Internet, personal computers are encouraged. The Halls are pleasantly situated close to teaching, laboratory, dining, library, computing and recreational facilities.

There are four Settlement Cottages with a total of 25 rooms (including four double rooms). Each room has a bed, a work unit, plenty of cupboard space, and well-heated in winter and cooled in summer (with ducted air conditioning). All settlement units have bathroom, toilet, lounge and kitchen facilities. Two units are fully self-contained with 7 rooms [one unit is designed for disabled people]. The remaining two, one with 6 rooms and the other with 5, also have kitchenette facilities. All are tastefully decorated. The floors are made from Indian slate; colours and fabrics used reflect a rural atmosphere. The units are constructed of Western Red Cedar with iron roofs, pre-coloured to blend with the landscape.

AAA Star Rating AAA Tourism have given Muresk settlement cottages a rating of 3.5 stars in the self catering category. This applies to family and week-end stay only.

For postgraduate and international students, there are three houses available on campus. These have self contained kitchens and are fully equipped with all amenities. Each house has a master's bedroom and at least one twin room. All are nicely situated with their own gardens. Priority to these houses is given to international students with families.
