Bachelor of Agribusiness (Equine Management)

The Bachelor of Agribusiness [Equine Management] provides students with agribusiness management and marketing education combined with technical training in equine science, equine breeding and equine nutrition. This degree is an opportunity to meet the need for management and marketing skills education in the equine industry. The learning model enables students to gain research skills that will enable them to assume leadership roles within the equine industry as well as in the broader agribusiness sector.

Introduction

The Equine industry is a large industry that encompasses both scientific and business areas. This course in the Agribusiness program consists of key areas of equine production combined with business management education. It includes equine science combined with marketing; management units and equine business planning. The Bachelor of Agribusiness (Equine Management) is a three-year course offered by the Muresk Institute and taught at the Northam campus. Graduates may find employment in the many facets of the equine industry, including the service and support industries including marketing and sales, and consultants.

Course Description

The Equine Management major provides students with agribusiness management and marketing education, combined with technical training in principles of equine science, equine health, nutrition and breeding. Students study the equine within a systems framework that considers wider national and international issues and constraints that impact on the industry.

Practical Experience

Prior to graduation all equine management students are required to complete 12 weeks of approved practical work on at least two different equine properties. Students are required to complete the work requirements during the semester vacations or may elect to complete the work part-time.

Entrance Requirements

In addition to the usual entrance requirements, applicants are encouraged to study TEE Discrete Mathematics. In addition, TEE Accounting, Economics or Biology provide useful preparation. Mature age students, WA College of Agriculture students with superior grades, and students who have completed a TAFE Associate Diploma or Diploma course are encouraged to apply.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Applications for RPL are assessed on an individual basis. RPL may be awarded for approved TAFE units. Those who have completed the Associate Degree in Agribusiness may apply for RPL in this course.

Duration and Availability

The course is three years full-time or equivalent part-time study. Some units are available by external study mode

Further Study Opportunities

The Bachelor of Agribusiness (Equine Management) Honours program enables students to extend their knowledge of current academic research methodology as it is applied to equine management and to demonstrate their advanced knowledge and skills through the conduct of a supervised research project and preparation of an honours dissertation. The honours degree program is of one-year full-time duration, or equivalent part-time.
